Meetspace VR Video Shoot

My first day working for Catch Creative consisted of travelling to Wembley to act as Production Assistant at meetspace VR. I did not know what to expect because virtual reality, despite its rapid rise, is still a relatively new commercial idea. Being my first day, there was a tinge of anxiety surrounding everything I did that day. Despite this, the team had been very welcoming and the same goes for the employees at MeetSpace VR.

John Lilley, managing director at MeetSpace VR, was the main focus for the shoot. The shoot was for a promotional campaign that Alex Sergent, Founder of Catch Creative, was assisting to produce. Ryan, director, and Luke, Audio Technician, were responsible for production. I simply was there to assist if any extra hands were needed throughout the shoot. One example being I said the take/scene number before shots. I was also tasked with taking photographs throughout the session so either Catch or MeetSpace could use for promotional posts later on.

I do have history in social media marketing and created a storyline with my pictures. Anytime there was a shift in elements, atmosphere, and/or a moment that seemed prominent that was a photo taken. That previous marketing experience does not carry along a past in photography, so I did what I could with my iPhone. The pictures that did come out, after being looked at by the rest of those involved in the shoot, were deemed usable.

At that point, I had been in London for only a week. I spent the first few days attempting to retrieve the only luggage I brought from Heathrow. The next few days joining my new, temporary home in mourning the loss of its Queen. Along with those things, began classes at a new school and internship at a new job. So, I don’t exaggerate when saying that the shoot at meetspace VR was my first breath of fresh air since I had arrived in London.

Moving forward, based on my initial meeting with Alex, I understood that the assignment for the time being was social media marketing. So, I also spent the day studying the team. I’ve had a couple first days at new workplaces, and I think it’s important to observe and adjust accordingly. I did this because every company’s social media strategy, though following similar precedents and formulas, should have that individual, authentic element. My job, even as an intern, when working on social media should be to understand truly what the brand wants to convey. So, I spent the time inbetween taking photographs and calling takes thinking about these topics. I also spent it watching the shoot itself because it was my first behind-the-scenes experience on a professional shoot.

Conclusively, this post isn’t about me so much as it is a testament for the experience I was given through meetspace VR. The staff, the space, the environment all came together so cohesively, and it felt engineered to create that feeling in its customers. I could sense this immediately. Even though I didn’t come as a customer, I knew that I objectively would come back and spend my own money to experience that feeling again.
